2013 Sculpture by the Sea

After a very hot and humid day spent cleaning and tidying up, after my daughter's birthday party, we finally left the home around 5,30 pm. to drive to Cottesloe Beach to have a look at this year's Sculpture by the Sea exhibition. The exhibition started on the 8th March and runs until the 24th.

There are over 70 sculptures and the exhibition is expected to be visited by over 220.000 people.
Cottesloe Beach is one of Perth's most popular beaches with beautiful sunsets, and we got there just in time to watch it!

Sunset at Cottesloe Beach
The beach was full of swimmers and sculpture watchers even though it was already getting dark.

Multicoloured Tent
One of my favourites - a whole lot of fishing rods at various angles

Rodin type statues

Palm tree made with telephone yellow pages for the trunk and plastic leaves

Hanging skelleton

Ghost net Crocodile -  made with fishing nets
Eye of the Needle

From Chinese sculptor Chen Wenling,  who also exhibited red statues in 2011 and 2012 - a smaller statue this year, entitled "Games"

Tokyo Crows

This last sculpture by WA artist Mikaela Castledine, who participated for the first time, won the WA Sculptor Scholarship of $10,000. The crows were made from crocheted polypropylene and steel, and can be bought individually.

Which are your favourites?

  11. I also enjoyed the sculptures Grace.
I love their informal setting and feel people are more attracted to this type of thing than museums.
